Chris Viner-Smith recounts his exploits and deeds in PNG when he was young and ready for adventure. He was just 19 when he became a policeman and he grew up quick and fast. Chris recounts a whole range of adventures across PNG which are interesting enough but this book is also an important history of a time when Australia, PNG and were Indonesia in eachother's way. A great read with some hair raising stories including waking up one night to find his tent covered in giant hairy spiders - AAAARRRRGGGGHHHHH. Chris also asks the question as to why the police on this frontier were never recognised by the Australian government as worthy of recognition of their work in PNG. Sadly the government isn't interested - another case of no votes no interest? After PNG Chris worked in a whole range of interesting places and was in the emergency services of the Northern Territory when Cyclone Tracey hit and with the SES in Canberra during the awful fires of 2003. He worked in various government departments including employment education and training. This book will be sought after for many years as a record of parts of Australian history.
